Namaste India inaugurated in Tokyo

THE TWO-DAY festival Namaste India 2007 was inaugurated by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Toshihiro Nikai, at Yoyogi Park, on Saturday (29 September) morning. The Indian yoga guru Baba Ramdev delivered the opening sermon. He dwelled upon how to improve the metabolic system and thus augment the quality of life.

Despite rain, one and a half lakh people gathered to witness the opening ceremony. The crowds were still pouring in, at the time of filing the report.

A large number of enthusiastic people, Japanese and Indian, were present at the inauguration ceremony. The eagerness of the huge crowd was palpable.

It is worth mentioning that Namaste India is one of the biggest festivals of India held overseas. It is organised by India Center and others in the heart of Tokyo, showcasing the best of Indian culture, society and economy.

The two-day festival would present the divergent culture of India, in all her myriad glory. The festival Namaste India 2007 is aimed at promoting Indo-Japanese camaraderie.

An official said that the aim of Namaste India is to enhance awareness about India by showcasing its best, be it culture, society or economy. Greater awareness would bring about greater interaction and exchange, between the people of India and Japan, leading to a comprehensive India-Japan global partnership.

This is yet another step in giving shape to the slogan – ‘Stronger India, Stronger Japan & Stronger Japan, Stronger India.’
