Champions For Alzheimer's Causes To Descend On State House, USA

The Alzheimer's Association is rallying advocates for Alzheimer's Advocacy Action Day to promote a public policy agenda that includes passing proposed legislation (H616/S425) to create regulations to assure consistent care in Alzheimer special care units in nursing homes and raise awareness about the disease which now affects 120,000 Massachusetts residents and nearly 1/2 million caregivers/family members.

-- Representative Peter Koutoujian, chair, Public Health Committee, sponsor H616
-- Senator Marc Pacheco, lead sponsor S425
-- James Wessler, President/CEO, Alzheimer's Association, MA Chapter
-- Stephen Hume, Wilbraham, has early stage Alzheimer's disease
-- The Reverend Karen Bettachi, Lexington has early stage Alzheimer's disease
-- Andy Wojcikowski, Marlboro, caregiver for a parent with Alzheimer's disease
-- Joanne Szamreta, Needham, caregiver

The Alzheimer's Association is the largest national voluntary health organization dedicated to providing care and support for those affected by the disease, as well as advancing research into causes, treatments and cures. The Association's Massachusetts chapter is based in Watertown with regional offices in Lowell, Springfield, Worcester, and Sandwich.
