Corporators - HISABH DO ABHIYAN(Please Answer)

The death of democracy is not likely to be an assassination from ambush. It will be a slow extinction from apathy, indifference, and undernourishment ……Robert M. Hutchins;

"Corporators - HISABH DO ABHIYAN"

Yuva Satta, the youth wing of the Lok Satta Movement is launching "Hisab Do Abhiyan" on 27th of February. We demand financial accountability from our local elected representatives, the Corporators. We will ask the corporators to furnish accounts for the Rs. 35 lacs allotted to them each year for public welfare and ask them to publish their replies in their respective Wards. Ours is a "representative democracy", where in, we have a right to question and examine our representative on public matters and ensure that the money is put to appropriate use.

Join Yuva Satta, the youth wing of Lok Satta Movement in demanding accountability from our elected representatives.

BMC allocates Rs. 80 crores of our money every year to corporators. Unless Citizens take active part in the political system, the current degradation of the politics into an enterprise for private gains will continue at OUR cost. The elected representatives are answerable to US and unless we demand their accountability we will not get it. An enclosed advance questionnaire has already been sent to each corporator by post.

Fellow citizens Wake up, demand accountability, demand good governance

"Democracy is a device that insures we shall be governed no better than we deserve." … George Bernard Shaw

What you can do;

You can take a print of the questionnaire and meet your corporator individually or in group to ask her/him to fill up this questionnaire and forward to Lok Satta Movement.

You can verify the answers given by the corporator.

You can try and get local NGOs, CBOs, ALMs, LACCs, LACGs, MOHALLA COMMITTEES, HOUSING SOCIETIES, ASSOCIATIONS, FEDERATIONS and others to take up this with their respective corporator…

You can help us in setting up meeting with the Mayor, Gurudas Kamat (Congress), Uddhav Thackeray (SS), Nitin Gadkari (BJP), Prakash Mehta (BJP), Raj Thackeray (MNS), Abu Azmi (Samajvadi), Ramdas Athawale and other Political leaders, so we (you and us) can together meet with them and push for this accountability from their respective corporators

You could get organizations like IMC, BMA, CII, FICCI, BCCI, ROTARY CLUB and others to support this accountability campaign.

You can appeal to citizens in your area to join the campaign.
